Updated: Aug 22, 2023

Whether you are at Mattawa River Resort with your family, friends or your partner, there’s an experience that you shouldn’t miss – trail riding with our resident horses. Here are a few tips on what to expect when trail riding, safety tips, and the story behind the horses.

What can I expect?

Exploring unfamiliar territory is always fun. Doing it on the horseback is even better! Explore 147 acres of trail area on horseback with our guided trail rides. The trails go through a forested area off of Highway 17 in Mattawa. The staff at Mattawa River Resort make sure to take you through the riding process – how to hold the reins, hopping on and off the horse, etc. Even first-timers and non-experienced riders can feel comfortable. Before you set out on your guided ride, make sure to get to know your horses’ name and remember it during the ride. This will be a good way for you to bond with your new friend.

The Story Behind the Horses

The 16-year-old twin daughters of the resort owners look after the horses and lead trail rides for the guests. Alexandra and Adrianna have owned horses of their own since they were eight-years-old. From then onwards, rescuing and caring for horses has become their passion. All of the horses at the resort come from neglect and the duo strives every day to ensure they have a brighter future.

Meet the Friendly Five

Introducing – Prince, Spirit, Bam Bam, Chanel, and Luis Vuitton. After being forced into racing and changing owners several times, the horses now lead a more tranquil life, are well cared for and loved. All of the proceeds from the trail riding fees collected at Mattawa River Resort go towards the horse’s food and care. While riding, give your horse a little pat or stroke, just to connect with them better.

Safety Tips
